Ever since the South Dakota v. Wayfair tax case, the landscape has changed where taxes can be charged, opening up more levels of complexity and potential for liability. Avalara is one of the companies that have developed applications to assist with the calculation and administration of sales taxes.
Since that time we have been utilizing the AvaTax solution to determine the correct taxes to calculate based on the 3 key components; What, Who and Where. Over the years we have continued to enhance our integration as the need for a solution such as this has increased significantly. Governments are looking for ways to finance the added commitments that were incurred during the pandemic, they will no doubt be searching for revenue wherever possible. The AvaTax solution can also monitor when a company may need to register in additional jurisdictions based on thresholds that are in existence.
This integration has resulted in peace of mind for our clients, knowing that tax calculations are being handled by software specifically designed to get it right.
At a high level, here is how it works.
In the setup for Avalara, you select the jurisdictions where you are subject to tax. The address must then be validated by AvaTax to ensure it can perform the tax calculation.

When you enter an order with a validated AvaTax address, AvaTax takes care of the rest.
The calclated amount appears on the INDUSTRIOS sales order or invoice.
